Building begins on Station Road

Work on a £5.2 million project to build 37 new Ongo homes begun this month on Station Road, Scunthorpe.

The site will consist of a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes for affordable rent, with five of those available for rent to buy.

Living in a Rent to Buy property means that for the first five years, tenants pay less than market rent – to allow time to save towards a deposit. It’s a national initiative to support people to get on the property ladder that do not have enough saved.

The homes are based in a sought after area, right in the heart of Scunthorpe town Centre, with schools, shops and leisure facilities within walking distance.

Each will come with off-road parking, electric vehicle charging points, patio doors to the rear onto a private garden, along with bird boxes and hedgehog runs.

Georgie McGuire, Development Project Manager at Ongo said: “We’re delighted to be working on even more homes in Scunthorpe town centre. We recently handed over keys on West Street too, so it’s great to deliver even more in that area.

“Due to the coronavirus pandemic there was a delayed start on the site, so it’s great to see it going full steam ahead and begin to take shape.

“Offering a mix, including larger four-bedroomed and homes for rent to buy is another huge positive. We’re expecting them to be very popular and can’t wait to see them finished.”

The development is funded jointly by Ongo and Homes England, with G.S Kelsey appointed as the main contractors on site. They are currently digging the footings and creating an access road onto the site.
