Read MoreOngo has recently added two defibrillators to the local community, at Myos House on Warwick Road and The Arc in Westcliff.
Defibrillators are used in life threatening emergencies and give electric shocks to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest. Anyone can use them, and no special training is needed.
The Arc worked closely with Humber Aid and HFR Solutions CIC who kindly donated the defibrillator, meaning there is now a machine for the whole Westcliff community to access if needed.
Volunteer and Westcliff resident Amelia said: “It’s great that we have this piece of life saving equipment in such a well-used space.
“I have family members with heart issues so it’s reassuring to know that there is now a defibrillator close by.”
The second defibrillator at Myos House was purchased as a result of fundraising activity by residents, Ongo colleagues and the HomeFirst Care team. They held numerous events including an open day, tombola, an auction at the Platinum Jubilee party plus lots of generous donations.
Eileen Salmon, Myos House tenant said: “I started fundraising when my husband Peter sadly passed away. It has been my goal to raise enough funds for a defibrillator.
“I am happy all our hard work has paid off and we’re able to have something like this available for everyone.”
