Travellers exempt from English border rules

Travellers exempt from English border rules

Some travellers will be exempt from new border rules in the UK. This means they may not need to provide their journey or contact details or self-isolate for 14 days after they arrive like most travellers.

The exempt travellers include travellers from within the Common Travel Area (Ireland, Isle of Man and Channel Islands), members of diplomatic missions and consular posts in the UK, defence personnel, UK officials and contractors required to work on essential border security duties, among others.

You can click here to view the government’s full list of exemptions.

If you’re asked to show a letter from your employer, you do not need to show a physical copy. For example, you could show a Border Force official the letter on your smartphone.
