Plan to bring new services to retail park

A new Aldi supermarket, a drive-thru coffee shop and two retail units could be built at a Lincoln retail park, if a new planning application is approved.

The proposed scheme is for the Moorland Centre retail park, off Tritton Road. It would see the old Downtown building – which is currently fenced off – demolished and replaced with the new facilities.

If permission is granted, Aldi’s new supermarket would be at the back of the site, near the existing M&S Food Hall.

It would front onto a new 193-space car park, which would bring the number of spaces at the retail park to over 360. A new entrance to the Aldi car park would be created off Moorland Way.

The drive-thru coffee shop is planned for the front of the site, close to Elite Fish ‘n’ Chips.

Work on this part of the plan could begin in early 2021 subject to planning. Two retail units, which would be next to the Aldi supermarket, would be built as part of a second phase.

Lincolnshire Co-op runs the Moorland Centre travel agency on the site and owns the retail park. The Society has submitted the planning application to the City of Lincoln Council alongside agents Banks Long & Co.

Banks Long & Co Managing Director Tim Bradford said: “This proposal aims to provide shoppers with more choice in that area of the city. It will also help the existing businesses at the Moorland Centre, giving people extra reasons to visit, helping to boost footfall.”
